Paper Menagerie

With a few folds, you can transform the drawn shape of a four-legged animal into a 3-D miniature. Try to have others guess what you’re cutting out!
1. On a scrap of paper, draw the outline of an animal as if it were lying flat on the ground with head, legs and tail extended (a kind of road-kill effect). Cut out the shape, and then fold at the joints.

2. Use a pen to draw in the whiskers, eyes, spots and other details.

3. Get good at this, and you can make anything from a Jack Russell terrier to a Thoroughbred.

Behind Closed Doors   
 
Little children love to lift the flap (or open the door) and see who's behind it. The more doors, the better.

This pet shop provides lots of hiding places for puppies, rabbits and parrots, but you could go a long way with a castle, a forest scene, a city or a school.

Fold a piece of paper in half, draw the scene on the top layer, cut out the flaps, then draw the inhabitants on the bottom layer.

Moving Eyes   
On a small square of paper, draw a face, but cut out a little circle where each of the eyes would be.

Position a separate piece of paper behind the face and draw on the eyeballs. Then use the back sheet to move the eyes up, down and around. The person seems alive.
